Chief Planning Officer

Investing for the next generation; delivering more of what matters

Folkestone and Hythe District Council (formerly Shepway) is located in a unique and attractive area of East Kent, characterised by historic towns and villages, an extensive coastline and outstanding countryside. Although an already thriving authority, we do not plan to sit still and are committed to delivering growth and prosperity for Folkestone and Hythe.

The district is progressing through a period of significant development and, to support this, we seek a Chief Planning Officer to lead an impressive and challenging range of strategic public and private sector redevelopment projects. These major projects include a planned new garden settlement of c.10,000 new homes at Otterpool Park; detailed plans for the regeneration of Folkestone Harbour and seafront; new leisure uses and housing; and the phased redevelopment of the Ministry of Defence garrison at Shorncliffe to build up to 1,200 new homes.

As Chief Planning Officer, you will be the Council’s senior planning specialist, providing strong leadership and professional expertise to guide these complex and challenging projects throughout the strategic planning process. Reporting directly to the Corporate Leadership Team, you will work closely with the Cabinet, committee members and other senior stakeholders to support the Council’s long-term ambitions for growth within the district.

This is an exciting time to join the Council as we embark on this significant period of growth and development. If you have the passion, expertise and leadership skills to make a difference at this point in our history, we would love to hear from you.
